“If CTP Teams were a surfing competition, the score would be kept in clicks”

There has certainly been a bit of a debate recently, quite heated in some quarters, about CTP Teams.

There have been cries of “foul,” “unfair” and even accusations of cheating as the competition between teams heats up.

Some think it is unfair for surfers that XP can be bought or that it is possible to use TimTech Rewards Points to purchase XP.

I don’t buy this argument personally and neither does Lucky 13 leader Tom Wacker who writes in his blog today:

“CTP Teams IS NOT a surfing competition. Repeat NOT a surfing competition.  If CTP Teams were a surfing competition, the score would be kept in clicks.

“Surfing is certainly one way to get Experience Points, but it is not the only way to get XP…”

He then goes on to list some of the different ways of getting XP including the option of spending money.

I suspect Tom may get haters for pointing this out. It does not make the message any less valid though.

Great blog post…take some time to check it out – CTP Teams Remedial Class.

  7. Wendy says:

It’s not unfair and it just shows that money is boss.
For me, the most valuable thing is not being in the first place but being on a team.
But The Strays is still good at surfing.

    • Jon Olson says:

      Huge nugget right there….

The ‘wealth’ in teams is the experience with your fellow team mates, the networking, working together, discovering new ways to earn XP….it’s supposed to be an adventure.

But still, at the end of the day, people who ‘pay to play’ should not be disregarded either.

      • Jon, will you announce a “XP rewards general rules” for anyone who joined any sites under TimTech.
Let’s said you will give xK or xxK XP as reward for joined as free member and additional xK or xxK XP for every $1 they spent for upgrade.
I think that’s will make more clear for us. Thank you.

        • Jon Olson says:

We don’t really do that unless it’s a promo or program launch we are doing. We will always announce any deals we do, whether it’s here, through email, twitter, TE Live….We’ll make sure you guys always know what we are giving out and for what.

  8. Evelyn Kramer says:

  11. Charlotte says:

Whatever you do to get xp don’t forget to have fun along the way.

  12. Well said. It is a learning process in game form. That is what I understood the purpose of CTP to be. I couldn’t be more happy with my experience.

  13. Lynn M says:

Always a fan of Tom Wacker posts and this one was excellent, despite his claim to it being “another lame” one. Good on ya, cap’n!

  15. Anton Parvov says:

    Good luck for all teams!

  16. Virginia says:

I think all the top teams use reward points to boost the score, so I don’t think I know anyone who has an issue with.

  17. Sig says:

    Its an great post indeed.

    One recommand to READ!

  18. Naturally Tom is right. We have had a scrambling team since the outset and we have fun trying to outguess others to stay in the top ten. I will admit it is work, but were else could you work and have this much fun.

  19. Karen Kuty says:

Excellent post by Tom. He is 100% correct–it is not a clicking competition. And there are multiple ways to earn XP that don’t involve spending money (like commenting on blog posts).
The point is what are you trying to get out of the CTP teams competition–what is your plan?

I’m doing it to make more social contacts with like-minded people that could lead to business (or more friends, because I always need more friends) than being involved with CTP teams competition as my primary business.

So, am I going to cry foul if someone gets more XP than I do? Hell no!

I will spend money on promos that earn me XP, but ONLY if that promotion is in alignment with my primary business (which the teams are NOT).

Do I have a problem if someone else spends money on things I don’t. Hell, no! We all have our own businesses and our own plans.

I think the whiners need to get a grip and get over it already.

  20. I base my purchases on whether or not I need them. If it’s something that I would have bought anyway because it helps my business, then I attempt to maximize the XP.

  21. Patricia Dean says:

Our team, WakeUpNow is here to have fun, & work together, everyone doing their best. We all have businesses to run, which come first. We enjoy working together as a team to see how far we can get, with the time we have. I don’t think any of us buy XP, unless they would benefit our main business. We basically enjoy encouraging one another & the fellowship.

  22. Raj G says:

Tom has his unique ways of putting things…

  23. Tom Wacker says:

Thanks Patrick, and thanks for all the comments.

Everything having been said, for me, and I think for the Lucky 13, has been the opportunity to work and play together. A group of individuals that has come together for a common goal. Each has their strengths, and all are part of the team.

That and the chance to do some serious Trash Talking, of course…

  24. Marye says:

Clicks don’t make the money – networking and team work do…

  25. Stefan Berg says:

    Very well written…

    1. Yeah CTP Teams is not a surfing Contest

It Make sense to add way more into the Conest then surfing…

2 It’s Not the People Surfing The Most,
Who make most of the Money in TE’s…

Yeah, use the Team to Network… get from ideas to action
and start selling stuff and make money…
