Robert Arnold Quits TE Racing League Team To Focus On His Business

At the end of Season One I can clearly remember saying that Season Two on CTP Teams would be very interesting indeed.

However I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so dramatic as it has been so far…and we are only just into week two.

The latest big news is that Robert Arnold has stepped down as leader of TE Racing League and has also quit the team.

What? Another awesome leader gone already. Is there something in the water?

Carl Belcher has taken over from Robert as team leader and I have no doubt that he will do a great job.

There is no drama or sinister motive to this latest departure and, indeed, Robert has written a full post explaining his decision on his Ragin’ Redneck Rants blog.

In short he thought there was a conflict of interest in owning a program which  has CTP badges (lots and lots of CTP badges actually) and being in CTP Teams. In addition he wants to free up time so he can focus on his business.

He wrote:

“I have badges at TERL. A whole lot of badges. What would prevent me from making those badges exclusive to my TEAM. That could create an advantage. It may not be against rules, but it could be considered unethical. On that same token, I could prevent other teams from gaining rewards when they actually achieve what is being promoted.

“The same could be said for the occasional badge hunt. An individual, or owner, could purchase a badge, hoard it so that no one else will claim it, and then go out and get the rest out there, thus guaranteeing the grand prize. Once again, this may not be against the rules, but could be considered unethical. The same with Giveaway XP.

“So, and this is my personal position…if you are an owner of a business, work for a business, or use the promotions of another business in which there is a competition in which those participating can win prizes, whether it be cash or non-cash prizes, in order to prevent or remove any doubt of inappropriate possibilities, those individuals should not participate in those competitions and/or promotions.”

Just because he has stepped down from his team this does not mean we have heard the last of Mr Arnold…not by a long chalk I suspect.

  5. I respect Robert’s decision as well.

I too have wrestled with that very question. In the end I decided to stay in the teams, but made the commitment that I would not use my sites or badges to the exclusive benefit of my team.

But I am still torn even now, as just a team member and no longer a team leader between the time I feel I need to give to the team and the time I truly want and need to give to my sites. It is a balancing act on a high wire that for the moment I am willing to walk, but there is still a chance that I will fall off the wire and make a deliberate choice to land squarely on just one side and not the other.

I’m so glad you took the words right out of my mouth. I love the Teams concept. But I am in business too and sometimes I feel as if I can’t sleep because I have to finish the DC for the team.

I vowed to be as open and helpful to all CTP members be it on my team or not. So I try to spread the XP love equally to all surfers. In fact it tickles me to have so many of my badges with other team’s flags on them.
      Thanks for surfing!

As for Mr Arnold. I respect your integrity and I love your site. I’m surfing there right now in fact. lol

  6. James Bain says:

Sounds like a man with integrity. Probably will surf more at TE Racing.

  7. Patricia Dean says:

  8. Glenn Witmer says:

Good luck with the extra time for your business

  9. Very nice Robert
Like William, I am a Team Leader as well as a site owner that participates in CTP Promos,
However the team I am a member of,is not a competitive team and it is our charter to just have Fun doing what we normally do and to not be over competitive.
I Do not believe in giving the team any advantage exclusively , when my sites are having a promo they must surf the same as anybody else to undertake the tasks.
The CTP GAME, is just that , a GAME and to be honest their are far more important things to be taken seriously in my life than to be pressuring Team members to try and be top dogs every day of the week and I am, as are my team members, quite happy to just participate at the level that we do,
after all it is all about having Fun with no pressure to do anything else

    Interesting reading indeed.

And time for your own site and business I can really understand.

  11. Karen Kuty says:

Work on CTP teams should not take away from your primary business–that is extremely unwise! I applaud Robert for keeping his focus on his primary business, where it needs to be.

  12. Anton Parvov says:

I understand Robert’s decision and wish him the very best.
