I took your kingships!

ARRRRG. I liked Sitizens a lot. So today I decided to make Kingships work like they did in Sitizens. The person who claims the badge the most becomes King, but only if they keep their spot!

It just didn’t seem fair that some people were King of a badge but haven’t claimed that badge in 2 years. So I decided to be a pirate and take all the kingships away! Never fear, you can easily gain them back by claiming the badge again. Just watch out, someone else might claim it more than you!

Every Kingship adds a bonus to your team, so be smart and work together to collect as many as you can as a team!

Cool. I loved Sitizens but it took up so much of my time. This will be the best of both. Great Idea.

    • Patrick Griffin says:

This will inject more life into the whole concept of Kingships…I will do another blog post to explain in more detail.

    • Evelyn Kramer says:

Ok so 1 hour ago I was the King of three badges. Now I have none. You can only claim the badges once a day, so…
How can anyone be king for more that an hour or so? This may need some more thought. I need to think of a strategy…

      What Fun!

  2. Charlotte says:

    More fun … Awesome πŸ™‚

  3. Stephen Whittle says:

Interesting! I was wondering how kingship works!

Ok, this is what it’s all about! I was wondering where my team got those king of badges bonus. πŸ™‚

  6. Wendy says:

I can finally be the king of a badge!

  7. LORNA says:

Not Amused!! I might have only had Kingship of NINE Badges, but I was very proud of them. I was the first and indeed the ~ 10,000 Badge’s Collected ~ was created for me at my request. I was very proud of that one too.

I am not understanding how this new stuff works and I have no idea what Sitizens is/was.

All I know is that you have taken all of my precious Kingship Ownerships from me without reason or excuse or explanation! Not happy Men! I might just leave the Computer life I feel so strongly over this at your whim!

  8. Lynn M says:

I missed the whole Sitizens thing but since coming to CTP have been looking to get a kingship ever since. Maybe I can finally snag one now!

    • Gary Calvert II says:

Lynn, Sitizens was probably my favorite TT site, of all time. I’m really surprised it didn’t work better for them. Glad they are interjecting a sitizens type of feel to the badges. And in reply to Evelyn’s comment, in sitiens, (I’m guessing the new kingships work the same way.) It was about getting there most, and if there was a tie in number of arrivals, it went to the one who got their earliest, I think.

  9. Wendy Browning says:

    Oh what fun.

  10. Kris Rogers says:

Wow, this is going to be interesting with all the top team bonuses already at the moment.

  11. Jon Olson says:

I love it! I know some people may be upset but this is what made Sitizens so much fun. After losing a few of my kingships today I’m planning my attack for tomorrow.

    Let the games begin!!!

  12. Randy Sult says:

Hmmm…how did I know this was coming. Booby got an idea now. I love it when a plan comes together. Although, I lost my kingship of the 4cent badge, I’ve got an even better idea that will benefit all. hehehehe Stay tuned.

  13. Sig says:

    Attack is the best defence!!

Let the “New” Game Begin, Armed and READY!

  14. Raj G says:

    .

CTP is getting interesting by the day!

Hope many more surprises to come.

    Cheers!

  15. lol back to Serfdom for all

  16. Rob Paris says:

Well I am also not amused who are you to decide who gets a kingship after I went to the trouble 1. to earn the ones I had 2. the badges I own where metered out to CTP members who had earned the right to be Kings of said badges.

    Sitizens is dead alas
    Different game different rules.

Give back my Kingships they where mine earnt by me that makes me King of them and nothing should rule higher than a King.

  17. Karen Kuty says:

How sad. I didn’t have that many kingships, but they were hard won….

  18. steven Schofield says:

    Let the games begin.

  19. Georgia Stewart says:

    Should be interesting and fun

  20. Many worked hard and was proud of the king-ships in CTP …now its overrun.
Why didnt you just make a new sort of nerd-kingship?
Breaking the old system is not always the way to do it.

  21. LORNA says:

Very glad to see lots of support from Prominent Players.

    Thanks for the Honesty Guys.

    This is all wrong

    Lorna

  22. I could lose a tem member over this, but I think we can iron it all out and get ahold of a few new kingships for her.

  23. Noooooooooooooooooooo. Why did you do that to me πŸ™

  24. Jon Olson says:

So question for everyone against this…

How do we grow the game of CTP / Badges by adding the ‘kingship’ angle to it like we did and keep current Kings happy…

    Any ideas?

  25. LORNA says:

The damage is Done! The damage is permanent.

I don’t understand computer coding/programming. I only know that there’s an absolute ton of it to do the simplest of tasks.
I believe that now you have taken our Kingships off us all it may well be too late to get them back which is understandable I suppose. It is too big to just hit the ‘Restore’ or ‘Undo’ Buttons.

I believe that you have enough people at the top there with you with heads full of ideas and imagination and resources who could have thought up a new and different plans/schemes/games/angles/gimmicks to enhance your earnings without wrecking the place and Peoples Prize Possessions!

I am committed to something for the rest of the month of August and I am seriously then thinking very strongly about leaving the Tim Tech Sites en mass and getting my life back. I am treating this with the same contempt and indifference you have walked all over us with.

What an absolute shame you did this without consultation.

I consider myself to be a Serious Player as I have not seen any other Surfer who has got ‘SEVENTY TROPHIES’! I’m sure there must be one or two, but it has been a way of life that you just wrecked for me.

    Lorna

    • Jon Olson says:

      Nothing is permanent πŸ™‚

Sometimes we do things without thinking of the bigger picture. That’s part of our DNA. We try things, and sometimes when we try things we end up hurting the people that have been with us and used to a certain way of doing things.

Give us a chance to make it right, we’ll figure something out.

      • Evelyn Kramer says:

Perhaps each site could have a King’s Badge That can only be found once per day by one person, period. Either on the site, or surf for it. The Conqueror is King that one day.

I’d buy one for my site…

  26. Tom Wacker says:

Since I didn’t do a Saturday blog, I’ll vent here:)

Kingships were, Kingships are. One thing this has done is put yesterday’s sign up on equal footing with someone that has been around from day one.

I understand the sense of loss, and I worked hard for the few I got. But I really like the idea that the ‘newer’ members can score kingships and get some of the thrill of getting them.

How about that? The curmudgeon is squarely in favor of change. Even monarchies don’t last forever:)

    I’m just sayin’

  27. LORNA says:

Great word ~ Curmudgeon ~ I just Googled it!

    curmudgeon

    noun
    a bad-tempered or surly person.
synonyms: bad-tempered person; crank; informalcrosspatch, sourpuss, old trout; informala bear with a sore head; informalkvetch, sorehead

  28. This overall is GOOD, especially if you are an OWNER, it is GREAT. It encourages activity. Members are going to surf to PROTECT their kingship. Members are going to surf to OVERTHROW a kingship. The Kingship now has VALUE. Previously, the only value you had was bragging rights. Now it has added benefit. If you are on a TEAM, you should be rejoicing because now you have the opportunity to get more.

For all those that are boo-hooing, get over it. Everything is subject to change. Don’t let yourself become indoctrinated. Makes life boring.

  29. Anton Parvov says:

    Let the games begin!

  30. Mark Johnson says:

Wow I am as confused as a baby in a topless bar…

  31. Best damage control is to restore the kingships and start a different game where people can claim new “Master of the badge” or something like that.
It isn’t fun when you did your best to be the first to claim the badge and now they’re gone

  32. Evelyn Kramer says:

I agree with Lorna about this Kingship situation. The way Kingships were won before is very different than now. The thrill for the newbies is good but it’s too short lived. This is not like Sitizens where all you had to do was show up, this system is just not practical.

Early this morning, I had 3 kingships from my site and then I lost them, why, how? Plus I’d like to know who took my Kingship. In Sitizens we were able to tell who was where. That’s what made it fun.

I agree that more thought needs to be given to this and flat out taking the kingships was perhaps too harsh a move. Lorna should get her’s back, maybe with a golden designator or some thing.

I love most everything TimTech does, but this one is iffy. I’m looking forward to Patrick’s detailed post.

  33. Sitizens was a different game. And that is the past.
Be careful you don’t destroy CTP too

  34. Evelyn Kramer says:

    Amen Walter.

    It’s becoming overwhelming.

  35. Another interesting idea.

  36. Glenn Witmer says:

I also think this should be look at and changed…I joined CTP 6-8 months in and had to work double time to get my kingship, to have it taken so easily is not right

  37. Rob P. says:

I had Kingship of two badges that where made because of something I did and said and was given Kingship of them based on that how do you replace that?
You can’t under this new system.
I was at the very first ever Sweeva Party and had the Sweeva Party badge to prove it and Justin swooped and made one for the occasion. I always made comment on getting yikes and tongue in cheek said to Justin you should make a Yikes badge He Did and gave me first dibs at it,
now how do you replace these personal touches?
No you can’t I feel like my house was just burnt down and all my personal things that meant something in life are destroyed.
That is devastation on any level. (I know having dealt with it in my job regularly.)
Then to add insult all the badges I own where evenly distributed to CTP members who I know where worthy of having them and been King of so my personal effort to do to others as was done to me amounts to nothing now.

The right thing to do would have been take the Kings from inactive members not active members.
So the big question now is was this what broke the camels back?

  38. I wakings want my Kings back.

  39. Elina Balashova says:

I think the main idea of kingships is great, but true, it should have been thought through more before implementing :).

I think taking kingships from the non-tiered badges or the badges from sites that do not have them in rotation anymore, is not very fair, as there is no way in getting them back. For example, I was very proud of my 5K badge on Listbuildsurf and John Novak was the 1st person who called me the Queen of the badge πŸ™‚ Now as the site is gone, there is no chance for me to claim it again.

I would suggest implementing one tiny change. Give all the kingships back and name it something like Conqueror of the badge as it was the first person ever claiming it. And kingships would go to the person who claims the badge the most. I suppose this would satisfy most players and would let the game continue without much drama?

    • Gary Calvert II says:

Ah, ty, Elina. Your comment answered the question I had. I was wondering if the single claim badges or no longer claimable badges were included.

  40. Now…Jon…listen to Elina and some of your top members in your sites, cant be that hard?

    • Jon Olson says:

Yes Ole – We have this blog for a reason. So we can get feedback from every member. Nothing is set in stone. We try things, that’s what it means to be an entrepreneur.

And sometimes, it doesn’t work out. We work with it and fix it and find solutions.

  41. Mary Golon says:

I didn’t have a lot of kingships but I earned the ones I had. I’m upset that they were taken away without notice or a new plan. I’m patiently waiting for a detailed report on how this is suppose to work, now.

  42. Patricia Dean says:

I didn’t know anything about Sitizens. I have no idea what kingship badges are. Please explain.

  43. Laura Godin says:

Never had one but would like to πŸ™‚

  44. I tried to get an answer once from Rob about what Kingship badges are. I still did not understand what they were I just remember him saying they were a one time badge. It seems to me that taking away someone’s pride and joy winning is like stealing their child. I never had one but there seems to be an inequity here.

  45. […] for surf teams to become King of a Badge by claiming it more than anyone.Β  As soon as we saw the blog post about this development, Hit Funnel swung into action and launched what we consider to be the most […]
